I loved this bike, my first one. I once raced a gs1000, on old san jose road,between Santa Cruz and San Jose, California. I hit the throttle first, and for a few very windy miles, he could not get close to me. Of course, as soon as a long straight away came up he pulled next to me, gave a big smile and a thumbs up, and flew away. It was great. you has to get the rrrrs way up there to take advantage of it,s rather narrow power band, but for the time, it was impressive. I finally said good bye to it after landing under a car,in Baker Oregon,grabbing gears in the snow.Right before that it made the long trip between Santa Cruz California, and Baker Oregon. Try that on a two stroke 250, NOT. I went through 4 sets of plugs, my ass is still not the same after all these years. Quite an acclomplishment, but I would not suggest trying it. I remember being helped out by a minister in Wagon Tire Oregon,because I stopped to help him fix a flat on his car. He gave me enough gas money to finish the trip,Thank God. You would not want to get stuck in Wagon tire Oregon. It is the Middle of God forsaken Nowhere(no offense intended if you are there,pleasant people, all 2 of them) Ah the memories.Doug Simerly |
