I had wanted to ride a motorbike for as long as I can remember but there has always been something standing in the way, usually money. However, with the price of running a fast car ever increasing I felt the time was right to get a bike. | ||||||
I was going to do a weeks direct access course and go straight onto a big bike but I decided that given my love of going fast and complete lack of experience on a bike it would probably end in tears. So I did my CBT and started looking for a 125 to get some practice on. With £2000 to spend I thought I would have no problem finding a good one. However most of them were just too small for me (being 6´4, 15 stone), after a while looking I decided that the only real options were the Aprilia 125, and the Honda XR, both good bikes in their own way. I had read too many horror stories about the Aprilia to consider buying a second hand one so I went off to Preston Superbikes to have a look at a new one (a bit out of budget) and a garage that had a Honda XR for sale. When I got there the XR had been sold but the guy took me into back to have a look at a Varadero that had just come in. My first thoughts were, that can´t be a 125, and there is no way I can afford that. £1595 later and I was the very proud owner of a brilliant Varadero. It is unlike any other 125. You really feel like you are on a big bike, it is very stable even at low speeds and fast enough for most needs until you try and take it above 60mph. It does around 75 mpg and has a 17 litre fuel tank which keeps you going for ages between stops. The best thing about it is that it looks the part and once you pass your test and the L Plates come off only people who are looking will realise. I am glad I bought this bike and will be sad to see it go when I get my license, I honestly believe that if it hadn´t been for this bike I would have bought an Aprilia and been sad, injured and poor at the moment. |
