A big, comfortable Adventure Series

Had it for 18 mos and did a couple of trips down to CA and throughout Western half of WA State. Mainly used the top box to carry my camera and extas, but on a blustery day, it´ll catch the wind and affect steering. Otherwise, it´s got fairly descent handling and as long as you have your rear preload (3 - 4 lines showing) nothing dragged with my 180lbs on board riding it fairly aggressively. No wheels spins to worry about while leaned over, so you can get on the gas early. Tires are VERY sensitive to air pressue, if ridden while low pressure (33 psi below), it will fall-into turns and seems to drift off line. But the tires provided good traction on dry and wet (OEM). I´ve gotten 44 - 48 mpg on avearge. Just intsalled PCIIIusb, with OEM set-up. It appears to have brought the snatchy-ness under control and shifts smoothly. Just ordered the Suzuki taller shield, but I also installed an O´neal bar with -1´ height and -1´ pull back and it´s been pretty quiet. Center stand is a must for this bike, making oil/filter change an easy 30 mins task. Spark plugs and valves are different story, but as you get used to it, the 1/2 fairing comes off in about 30 mins as well. Compared to my r1150gs, the V-Strom is definately top-heavy and should only be taken on fire-roads at no more than moderate speed. Overall, it´s a great sport-tourer and with snatchy under control, not bad on fire-roads. | |
