I bought a Comet 250 (03 model) in July ´04. I had looked at Honda and yamaha and decided that the comet looked like value for money. | ||||||
I bought the comet as a commuter bike. Currently I ride a round trip of about 75klms a day, mainly on freeways around Melbourne Australia. The bike spends most of its time at the 100klm speed limit or just over. The comet has features, in my opinion that sets it apart from some of its opposition. Its style is upright and gives you good head hight for keeping an eye on the traffic way ahead. The large 17 litre tank and the high passenger seat gives you the feeling you are sitting an something more fancy like a Cagiva. Its style is quite modern and the naked look is clean yet tough. For a 250 it has lots of power, gets off the line well and runs good at 110 or 120. Mind you, I am 95kg so 140 is about its top with me on board. I have done 8500ks at an average of 24.83 klms per litre, which for me means around Dollars 15 a week for nearly 400klms. Can´t complain about that. On the negative side, the front forks are a bit sloppy and tend to move around particularly when cornering on long sweeping corners. It dances around a bit when hitting bumps or groves in the road. The service intervals of 4000k make the service costs higher than I would like. I was also disappointed with the agent I bought the bike from and they appeared quite disinterested in my queries once they had my money in the bank. Overall, the Comet is fun to ride, looks great, economical on fuel and is safe. |
