A tough winter to ride in, but I´m liking the V5 a lot. | ||||||
Prior to December, I´d been riding a Honda 250cc Reflex scooter - and been impressed. I wanted to save what´s left of my bad back with larger wheels to smooth out the bumps so I could make a 2,000 mile ride through the Cascades, Rockies and across the plains to the Mississippi. Always wanted to do it. I´m 64. If not now, when¿ The motor/CVT is a clone of my pervious bike and the local Honda shop reports few problems with previously sold bikes. I´ve had none with mine. Acceleration is a mite quicker. The Honda might have 5mph more top end, but I´m still breaking the V5 in at 500 miles. Brakes are better; the muffler is, if anything, slightly quieter - which is good as I commute all year and hate to wake my neighbors. The speedo seems a bit optimistic; the gas guage doesn´t budge till 100 miles are gone, after which it tells the truth very quickly. Both are minor and can be adjusted for. The V5 handles well at highway speeds and is generally a smooth, pleasing ride. It starts so fast, you can´t hear the starter engage. I got the bike in high-visibility yellow and wear a bright jacket as well. Loud colors are FAR safer than loud pipes. The folks in Minneapolis have been friendly but I´ve had no problems to solve. It´s a much bigger bike than the 250cc Honda Rebel - especially for a passenger. With 65+ mp gallon, a bike like this can pay for itself in 3-4 years. I recommend it. |
