Had an early and late version. Was first year for EVO engine. Last frame project Eric Buell worked on before leaving to start his own company. | ||||||
Early version--Evo engine, dry clutch, 5 speeed trans, chain driven wheel. Late version--wet clutch and belt driven wheel. Models were standard FXR, FXRS for sport, FXRLR low rider, FXRT for touring. All were similar except for FXRT. Had a mini fairing, saddlebags and a one piece touring seat. Had 2´ extended forks also. This model (FXR) was the precursor for the DYNA line which came out later. Had a massive welded backbone and gusset plates for the frame to the steering head. Very rigid frame. Some say it was the best frame Harley ever made. It was the basis for the first CVO bike line. A late 2008-2009 Twin Cam and transmission as a complete drive train will drop right into this frame. The new dressers and the FXR are dimensionaly the same. Was the subject of the first custom bikes built as choppers back in the mid 80´s. Was, and still is, one hell of a great handling bike. |
