MY 1995 HUGGER IS A BIKE THAT HAS EVERYTHING I EXPECTED. A GREAT RIDE. | ||||||
I FELL IN LOVE WITH MOTOR BIKES AT THE AGE OF 11. I GOT MY FIRST BIKE AT 14 AND HAVE BEEN RIDING, ON AND OFF, EVER SINCE. I´M NOW 66 YEARS OLD. I´V HAD FRENCH, BRITISH AND MANY JAPANESE BIKES. I COULDN´T AFFORD A HARLEY AND HEARD SOME BAD THINGS ABOUT THEM IN THE 60´S AND 70´S. THE BEST MADE BIKES FOR THE MONEY ARE JAPANESE. BUT THE BEST BIKE I EVER HAD, UNTIL NOW, WAS A SLIGHTLY CUSTOMED TRIUMPH 650 BONNEVILLE. I OWNED IT DURING THE 70´S. WITH ME WEIGHING 150# AT THE TIME, THE 650 HAD PLENTY OF PEP, LIGHT AND AGILE AND JUST A WHOLE LOT OF FUN TO RIDE. THE BIGGEST DRAWBACK WAS VIBRATION, BEING A SINGLE CYLINDER WITH A SOLID ENGINE MOUNT. WITH SO MANY INEXPERIENCED RIDERS THINKING THE 883 WOULD BE A GOOD ENTRY LEVEL BIKE, THERE ARE SOOO MANY 883´S FOR SALE. THIS HAS ALLOWED ME TO AFFORD MY FIRST HARLEY, A SPORTSTER, A FANTASTIC REPLACEMENT FOR MY OLD FAVORITE BIKE. I LIVE 5 MIN. AWAY FROM A BEAUTIFUL PARK HAVING MILES OF WINDING ROADS WITH PLENTY OF HILLS AND BEAUTIFUL SCENERY. THE BIKE HANDLES SO WELL. I AM EXTREMELY HAPPY WITH IT, AND AT 50 MPG, A CHEAP HOBBY. TO SUM UP: *THE BIKE IS NOT TOP HEAVY OR TOO TALL. WITH ME NOW WEIGHING 180#, MY BIKE AND I HAVE A HIGH CENTER OF GRAVITY BUT STILL HAVE NO PROBLEMS WITH HANDLING EVEN ON WINDY DAYS. *YES, I REMEMBER NOTICING THE CLUTCH AND BRAKE HANDLES DANCING AT IDLE ALONG WITH THE BLUR OF THE TAIL PIPE END, BUT THE MINOR ENGINE VIBRATION OF THE 883 ARE ALMOST WELCOME. NEVER HAD A LOOSE BOLT. *I GUESS THE CLUTCH MIGHT BE A LITTLE MUCH FOR THE LADIES. BUT AT 66 YEARS OF AGE, I FIND IT NO PROBLEM. *THE JAPANESE HAVE SOME EXCELLENT STARTER BIKES BUT THEY WON´T HAVE THAT DISTINCTIVE HARLEY SOUND......AND HOW WE DO LOVE TO BE NOTICED. I´M A SUCKER FOR CLASSICS. I´VE OWNED FORDS and CHEVYS ALONG WITH MERCEDES and CADILACS BUT FOUND THE BEST OVERALL CAR TO BE A JEEP CHEROKE WITH AN IN-LINE SIX ENGINE. I HAVE TWO IN MY GARAGE. I ALSO OWN AN OLD, FULLY RESTORED VW BEETLE AND AN UZI FIREARM. I USED TO FLY AN OLD BEECH BONANZA. ALL OF THESE ITEMS HAVE BEEN TESTED THROUGH TIME AND HAVE BEEN CLASSIFIED AS CLASSICS. I FEEL MY SPORTSTER HAS ALSO WEATHERED THE TRIALS OF TIME AND, FROM MY VIEW POINT, CAN BE CLASSIFIED A CLASSIC. |
