A few points about the touring capabilites of a 99 Bandit 1200S and what you can except from the bike from my point of view.

I bought a used 1999 Suzuki Bandit 1200S with 17K miles on it. The bike had been dropped fairly hard by the previous owner, thankfully it had engine gaurds so it took most of the damage. Other than a few knicks it runs well. We made trip up to WY last year and the bike performed flawlessly. Cold stars at high altitudes was no problem for the bike, fuel milage wasn´t too horrible about 36 to 40 miles to the gallon. The bike, for the money is a poor man´s touring machine. You do pay a price however, the wind screen (stock) is not designed for riding at speed for hours. The bars will the get the back hurting after 400 - 600 miles. Aftermarket screen, risers and heated grips and hard cases, would solve those problems. The Europeans get all the great bikes that are set up for touring like the Suzuki Bandit 1250 GT, perfect poor man´s tourer. All in all, great bike for a younger man in his late 20s to early 40s. I guess I´m gettin gtoo ols for the Bandit buzz bomb. Great bike. | |
