We bought 4 of these to use with youth groups. Now we race them in matched races | ||||||
My aim was to get some bikes that looked the part, sounded the part, yet didn´t have that nasty edge of a full blown crosser. My brother writes for a UK based off road mag, he had heard about the 230 and suggested I look into buying one. I found a UK importer who on the face of it was offering a good service. I bought 4 and I am pleased with the bikes. The UK importer is crap, we hit some problems and he has not done a thing, promisees are no good, when the bikes arrived two had no clutch leavers. I contacted Honda UK who whilst understanding my problem they could not help. The bikes run great, but after a while (say an hour) they won´t run above tickover. Next day they start and run great, again that´s until they have run for an hour or so. We also found that if the bikes are ridden hard they develop the problem sooner. We are still trying to sort out the problem? Apart from the engine problem we have great fun, the bikes are heavier than our full on MX bikes, but set against each other, racing is fun. The bikes corner very well, we attribute this to the lower ride height, power isn´t going to set the world on fire however it teaches us to use the 230 power more effectively. To increase power we removed the air intake restricter and the plug in the rear of the pipe. It could be said we have improved our riding from the lessons we learn on the 230. Brakes in relation to the power are good, front suspension we found was a bit soft and could easily bottom out. Looking at the foot rests, it looks like Honda found the pegs and mountings in an old parts bin and to save manufacturing cost used them instead. The plastic tags on the tank side panels are a joke, they break if you sneeze on them. What I and my pals all agree is for the money it´s a great value. Add to that it´s a Honda and despite the little setbacks I intend to buy some more. I have been told it´s possible to up-rate the engine, but for now we all agree; it´s a fun bike. Honda UK wake up, you are missing out. |
