Researching scooter deals for the past 12 months has proven that Bolwell´s Sym HD 200 is the best bargain in town.

As a novice scooterist I was intent on purchasing the most fuel effieient, cost effective, stylish and functional mode of transport that a local ´woman about town´ with a greenhouse conscience and the occasional need to wear a skirt - would find attractive. Needless to say, I wasn´t after an intergalactic cruiser or Ninja jet. (Although the Harley´s the Bergmans and Forzas looked thrilling, heavy and plush, I wanted something a little less pricey.) The humble Sym HD 200 sold by Bolwell (in reality 171cc´s) delivers the goods with a 4 YEAR warranty, 8L fuel capacity, large 16 inch wheels and a greatly reduced onroad package deal. I scoured scooter mags, Australian based stores,US and UK net reviews for well over a year and quite honestly, this elegant beauty won hands down. The controls are very easily accessible without twisting and searching for hidden ignition switches and without overly stylised touches - that excessively priced models are renowned for. Chic and yet simply affordable. I compared scoots like the Vespa, Bug Orion, Piaggio Liberty, Suzuki Bergman, TGB, Arriba XS, Aprillia Scarabeo, Daelim, Honda@ and Yamaha Cygnus/Vino/Bee Wee. Although they had definate strenghts and characteristics, the HD won out overall in classic appearance/style, reasonable power output (4 stroke - no mixing oils here), larger 16 inch wheels - as opposed to the standard 12´- for stability and handling, comfortable seat height, availability of parts and cheap,CHEAP servicing. | |
