I bought this 2007 VFR 800 as an upgrade to my 2005 Kawasaki Ninja 500r. These are my findings after one season of riding the Legend. | ||||||
First off. This is a sport bike. Dont be fooled by the sport touring sales pitch. If this bike had another 40 HP it would be in the super sport class. Yes you can buy hard bags for it and that would be as close to touring as this bike gets.. I love the increased power of this machine. The engine has plenty of power for one and 2 up riding. The vtech is interesting but like mnay others who ride these I wish it was left in 4 valve operation at all times. I guess it does what Honda inteneded it to. I love the look of this machine and it draws a crowd wherever I go. The fit and finish is nice. Love the clock, dual odometeres and fuel gage. Brakes are sweet and I have no issue with the linked system. Have never activated the abs system but psycologically makes you feel safer. The bike handles well for a big machine and is smoothe and steady at all times. High winds barely affect this bad girl. My biggest complaint is comfort. This bike kills my wrists and despite its all day rideability claims my ninja 500R was more comfortable. I have added handle bar risers and after market grips in an attempt to increase comfort. I also bought a sergent seat. Even after all that Im lucky if I can ride for more then a few hours and could not imagine driving 8+ hours a day with this bike...so much for touring. My wife who use to ride with me often does not like being a passenger on the VFR. The under seat exhaust gets hot when stopped and she generally is not comfortable. Over all this is a great bike. If your looking for a race rocket this isnt it. If your a knee dragger dont buy this bike. If you want a sporty, trustworthy reliable machine that still has plenty of get up and go this is a good choice. I knowing what I know now would have bought something else but am not completly disatisfied. Honda did many things right with this machine but could have done many things better. |
