Headlight adjuster problem GL500i

I bought a 81 GL500i, it\īs in pretty good shape overall, but the previous owner seems to have disassembled the fairing at some point and put it back together with a few bits missing. I\īve fixed most of the probs, but one that has me stumped is the headlight assembly. The lamp is aimed way too low. The adjuster knob on mine doesn\īt do anything, just spins freely. If I push on the lamp it moves back under tension from the adjustor spring, pushing the knob with it, but it\īs just pushing against the adjustor shaft - they\īre not connected. No matter how I try to thread the adjuster shaft, it doesn\īt take. Can this be fixed without disassembly? How? If not, how do I get it apart?
