I´ve got about 6000 mi on my Vulcan but haven´t had any service completed by a professional outfit.Of course I´ve changed the oil several times with filter but my tires are still fine. My clutch also does that intermittant thing and only when cold. I read an article somewhere that a fellow was having this same problem so he took it in for warranty work before it ran out.Turns-out that the clutch springs did not have the same exact strength so he had them changed (plates as well). You may want to look into that. Good Luck
