Exhaust won\´t come off, Please HELP.

I\´m trying to seperate my exhaust manifold where it meets the muffler to replace the muffler and exhaust silencers becuase it leaks. What\´s the best way to get this off? I cant seem to figure out how the muffler is attatched to the bike. I think it\´s under the center stand. I don\´t really want to take the whole exhaust pipe off from the maifold but if that\´s what needs to be done that\´s what I\´ll do. Clymer does a poor job explaining. Any help is appreciated.
