Most dangerous when stopped

Bought a 2001 ST1100 six weeks ago after riding a Yamaha XV535 for 25,000 miles. I wanted a bike that was good for two up and powerful enough for the highway. I love the new bike but there is little tolerance when stopped to lean at all. I was at a stop on a hill ready to take a right turn. Had my foot on the brake to gine the throttlehand freedom. Changed my mind about when to go but had initiated a slight lean. Went over like the tricycle in Rowan and Martins Laugh in except this wasn´t funny. My wife was on the back and groceries in the bags and GIVI trunk. I know this was alot of weight and will be more aware. Any feedback on this? Barney
